Making life more miserable for Palestinians

Israel continues to inflict collective punishment on the people it occupies – with disproportionate harm befalling the weakest segment of the already virtually defenseless population. As this strategy has been ineffective for the last 60 years, the reader is justified in his or her cynicism as to why Israel remains committed to inflicting such suffering. Such a doctrine clearly has more to do with domestic politics than security – anything to take the spotlight off the numerous corruption investigations surrounding Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, also see here.

Israel ‘to cut Gaza power supply’

Ehud Barak is to meet with officials later on Thursday to discuss the temporary cuts…

By formally declaring Gaza “hostile”, Israel argues it is no longer bound by international law governing the administration of occupied territory to supply utilities to the civilian population.

The UN has previously warned Israel that it must not inflict collective punishment on Gaza’s civilian population by cutting vital supplies and services.
